Skuid Mobile

Warning

As of November 2016, the mobile composer has been deprecated. What does this mean?

  • App builders with deployed mobile apps will continue to have access to the mobile composer and able to update pages in those mobile apps.
  • With Skuid v11, new users (and those with no mobile pages) will have no access to the mobile composer. Unpacking a page pack containing Skuid Mobile pages will re-enable the Mobile Composer option.

Skuid strongly advises using the unified Composer.

Introduction

Skuid Mobile allows you to build clean, crisp, lightning fast mobile apps without writing a single line of code. Plus, you can adapt your apps anytime, anywhere, using your mobile device.

With declarative, drag-and-drop tools, you can connect to your data with the touch of a fingertip. Assemble a responsive, interactive mobile experience with a few taps with prebuilt Skuid Mobile components. No Visualforce. No Apex. No kidding. With Skuid Mobile, it’s simple to combine form and function to deliver a fabulous mobile experience.

Skuid Mobile Builder is 100% Salesforce1 Platform native and open web.

This release features the two significant innovations for Skuid:

  • Components that responsively react to appropriately display information regardless of screen size.
  • Touch interactions that enable gestures on any component to trigger actions.

Find these innovations in a Skuid’s new mobile page builder, where you can build killer mobile pages on your mobile device.

Why does Skuid Mobile build Mobile Websites rather than Native Apps?

Skuid Mobile uses Open Web technologies to provide a user experience that is optimized for small form factors. The other strategy for mobile development is to apps that are native to specific device operating systems (iOS, Android, etc.) The strategy we have selected has its pros and cons, but we believe it delivers the greatest value for typical companies using Salesforce.com to optimize their business processes.

Benefits of the Mobile Web:

  1. Build once, see everywhere: Native apps require special development on each platform. You need developers with expertise in multiple development tools and code languages. With Skuid Mobile, you build one set of pages - and users can see it on Android, iOS, Blackberry, WindowsPhone – anything.
  2. No App Store: The open web does not require the gatekeeping of the App stores. If you thought the salesforce security review was challenging, wait until you jump through all the hoops for Apple. Similarly - every time you make a change to your Skuid Mobile app - it is immediately available to your users. No need to package the new new version, no need for users to download new version of the app. The improved version is just there…
  3. Device features: Increasingly open web technologies are gaining access to the native hardware features that used to be restricted to Apps. In our current release, we are using multi-touch gestures - a feature that some still claim is only available with Native Apps. In the future we have our eyes on accessing the camera, the geolocation tools, etc. We feel that the device features gap is closing.
  4. Integration with Salesforce1 Platform: The new Salesforce1 mobile app can include Skuid Mobile pages. This means a Skuid Mobile page can be accessed seamlessly from a mobile browser, or from within the Salesforce1 mobile app. Custom native app you built will never have this flexibility. You can design an integrated experience for users to access all Salesforce information and tasks straight from Salesforce1, rather than having to go through multiple different Apps on the home screen of their mobile phone.

Building a New Mobile Page

Creating a mobile page should be a familiar experience!

  1. On the standard Skuid Pages list - select “Create New Page”

The only new step: you need to create a page that is optimized for Mobile.

  1. Selecting the “Mobile” type on the New Page.
  2. Choose a page name.
  3. Select Type - Mobile.
  4. Click Create Page.

That’s it.

(The Templates that help quickly build Skuid pages have been modified to work with Mobile pages. Select one for an even faster mobile page.)
